GEO Pricing in 2026: What AI Search Optimization Costs (And What You Get)

Read MoreMagento 2.4.6 left standard support in August 2026, PHP 8.2 reaches end of life in December, and every release line after them will ask for another upgrade project. Merchants who would rather put that budget into growth move to Shopify or Shopify Plus. We translate the catalog and its attributes, bring the customers and the full order history, rebuild pricing rules as discounts and Functions, map every Magento URL and rewrite to its new address, and switch over at a quiet hour with the old store still selling until the last order lands.

Magento to Shopify
Magento lets a store be modeled almost any way; Shopify asks for a simpler shape and rewards it with speed. The work is deciding, before any export, where each attribute set, product type, price rule, customer group, and store view will live on the other side. Our Shopify development team does that with Magento engineers at the table.
Version and edition (Magento 1, Magento 2 Open Source, Mage-OS, or Adobe Commerce), attribute sets, product types, store views, customer groups, price rules, extensions, custom modules, cron jobs, and integrations inventoried and sorted into three piles: native on Shopify, covered by an app, or a rebuild. You get the piles, the price, and our honest view of whether Shopify can hold the store.
Advanced or Plus chosen on checkout needs, B2B depth, and API volume; store views mapped to Shopify Markets where one catalog serves several regions and currencies, or to the nine expansion stores a Plus contract includes where brands or catalogs differ; payments, tax, shipping, and inventory locations set up to match how you fulfill today.
Configurable products become products with up to three options and 2,048 variants; attributes that describe rather than select become metafields and metaobjects that filters and themes can read; bundles and grouped products move to Shopify Bundles or an app; categories become collections with their rules. Any product with a fourth option is redesigned in the mapping, never left to break at import.
Customers with addresses, tags built from their groups, marketing consent, store credit and gift card balances, and the complete order history with invoices, shipments, and refunds imported by API so support and reporting carry on. Shopify signs customers in with a one-time code sent by email, so nobody is asked to recover a password that could not be moved.
Luma and Hyvä templates do not carry over, so the storefront is designed and built new: an Online Store 2.0 theme with sections your team edits in the theme editor, or a Hydrogen storefront when you want a custom front end. Either way it launches passing Core Web Vitals. See Shopify web design.
Catalog and cart price rules rewritten as automatic discounts, discount codes, and Shopify Functions for the logic a setting cannot express: tiered pricing, shipping rules, payment rules, and cart validation. Shopify retired Scripts on June 30, 2026, so everything we build runs on Functions and Checkout Extensibility from day one.
Customer groups, tier prices, shared catalogs, and Adobe Commerce B2B companies rebuilt with Shopify's company accounts, catalogs, price lists, volume pricing, and payment terms, which have shipped on every paid plan since April 2026, with Plus for deeper checkout and catalog control. Requisition lists, quotes, and approvals are matched to native features or an app and tested with real buyer logins.
Every extension and custom module replaced by a native feature, a vetted app, or a custom app on Shopify's APIs: ERP, PIM, OMS, 3PL, search, reviews, subscriptions, loyalty, tax, and marketplaces, each tested with real orders before launch. Multi-source inventory becomes Shopify locations.
A crawl and rankings baseline, then every indexed URL and every row of the Magento rewrite table mapped to its /products/, /collections/, /pages/, or /blogs/ address, with titles, descriptions, canonicals, alt text, and structured data carried across. Redirects are loaded and tested before a rehearsed cutover with a delta sync, and we watch Search Console daily for two weeks. Support continues after that if you want it.
Why merchants move
We build on both platforms, so here is the trade without the sales pitch. Magento gives you a codebase you can bend to any rule, and asks for hosting, patches, upgrades, and a developer bench in return; one published analysis put that upkeep at $50,000 to $150,000 a year for a typical mid-market store before any license. Shopify takes most of that work away and gives you a narrower, faster platform. For brands whose growth depends on merchandising and marketing more than on custom logic, that is a good trade.
Hosting, security, scaling, PCI, and releases are Shopify's job. The 2.4.6 support deadline, the PHP end-of-life dates, and the next upgrade estimate stop being your problem.
A study Shopify commissioned found its checkout converting about 15 percent better on average than other platforms, with Shop Pay lifting conversion by up to 50 percent over guest checkout. Checkout Extensibility lets us brand and extend it without forking it.
Merchandisers edit sections, launch landing pages, schedule sales, and add products in the admin. Work that needed a developer and a release window on Magento becomes an afternoon.
Subscriptions, reviews, loyalty, search, returns, and bundles come as maintained apps that update themselves, so the code you own shrinks to the parts that are truly yours.
Company accounts and price lists, Shopify POS, the Shop app, marketplaces, and agentic storefronts that put eligible catalogs in front of AI shopping assistants all run from one admin and one catalog.
Products that need more than three options at scale, pricing engines no app can express, or data that must stay on your own servers are reasons to stay, or to look at BigCommerce, whose catalog model sits closer to Magento's. We will tell you if that is your store.
On every Magento to Shopify migration
Small catalog or enterprise build, these apply to every Magento store we move to Shopify:
Weighing a different destination for your Magento store, or coming to Shopify from somewhere else? These are the neighboring routes, and the free audit drafts your task list in about two minutes.
Six steps, in an order that protects revenue: decide what Shopify will and will not hold, translate the data model on paper, rehearse the data move in staging, build the storefront and the logic alongside it, cut over once the rehearsal is clean, and watch closely afterward. Most stores take ten to sixteen weeks.
The Magento inventory, the three piles (native, app, rebuild), the plan recommendation, and a fixed price. The free migration audit is the quick first pass.
Attribute sets, product types, groups, price rules, store views, and URLs each given a Shopify destination and signed off before any data moves.
A full import of catalog, customers, and orders into a development store, counts reconciled against Magento, exceptions fixed at the source, then repeated until clean.
The storefront built in parallel, pricing logic written as Functions, apps installed and configured, and integrations tested with real orders end to end.
The redirect map loaded and crawled, a timed rehearsal of launch day, then the delta sync and DNS change at your quietest hour with the sitemap submitted straight after.
Two weeks of daily checks on rankings, crawl errors, orders, and speed, training for your team, and the Magento environment archived and shut down once the numbers hold.

“Teaming up with MAK is a total thrill! We're over the moon with our brand-new website. Alexis was all ears for our needs and hatched a plan that checked all our boxes. Her communication skills throughout the whole process were simply top-notch.”

“MAK is literally my go-to developer for Volusion and BigCommerce. I have used Mary many times and will continue to do so. I have not found a more reliable and knowledgeable person to handle all of our technical issues with both platforms. I made the mistake of going with a company that I thought was bigger and better. I ended up having to hire MAK to fix all of their mistakes that would have cost me hundreds of thousands in lost sales. It's important to have a full understanding of the database structures and business rules of each platform. MAK really understands the fine details behind these platforms. MAK has truly earned my trust for life.”
Send us your store URL before you approve the estimate. We will reply with a fit assessment, what moves cleanly to Shopify and what needs a rebuild, and a fixed price to compare.
Support deadlines, plans, product mapping, modules, store views, B2B, passwords, URLs, downtime, and cost.
Upkeep, mostly. Magento 2.4.6 left standard support on August 11, 2026, Magento Open Source gets no extended support, the 2.4.7 line follows in spring 2027, and PHP 8.2 reaches end of life on December 31, 2026, which Adobe itself flags as a PCI compliance risk. Each deadline is another upgrade project. Merchants whose stores do not need Magento's depth are choosing a platform where those projects do not exist.
Plus starts at $2,300 a month on a three-year term and earns it when you need custom Functions, deeper checkout customization, expansion stores, higher API limits, or large B2B catalogs. Company accounts, price lists, and 2,048 variants per product are on every paid plan now, so many Magento Open Source stores land comfortably on Advanced. The fit assessment prices both.
A configurable product becomes one Shopify product with up to three options and 2,048 variants. Attributes used for selection become options; attributes used for description and filtering become metafields and metaobjects. Products that need a fourth option are split, combined with a product options app, or modeled with metaobjects, and we decide which in the mapping, product family by product family.
Each one goes into one of three piles in the audit: Shopify does it natively, a maintained app does it, or we rebuild it as a custom app or Function. Most stores find that a large share of their modules existed to add features Shopify already includes. The few that encode real business rules get rebuilt and tested against the old behavior.
Two ways. Shopify Markets serves regions, currencies, languages, and price adjustments from one store and one catalog, which suits most multi-region setups. Where brands, catalogs, or operations truly differ, separate stores make sense, and a Plus contract includes nine expansion stores beside the main one. We map each Magento website and store view to one or the other in the plan.
Retail customer groups usually become customer tags and segments with discounts tied to them. Wholesale groups, tier prices, shared catalogs, and Adobe Commerce B2B companies are rebuilt as Shopify companies with locations, catalogs, price lists, volume pricing, and payment terms. Quotes, requisition lists, and approval flows are matched to native features or an app and verified with real buyer accounts before go-live.
Magento password hashes cannot be loaded into Shopify, but it matters less than it used to. Shopify's customer accounts sign in with a one-time code sent to the customer's email, so a returning customer enters their address, types the code, and sees their order history. We announce the change in your launch email so nobody is surprised.
The URLs do change, because Shopify fixes the /products/ and /collections/ prefixes and Magento's .html paths go away. Rankings hold when every indexed URL and every rewrite has a one-to-one 301 in place before launch, metadata and structured data match, and internal links point at the new addresses. Migrations that skip this lose 20 to 40 percent of organic traffic and take months to recover; ours are planned to avoid the drop.
No. Magento stays live and keeps taking orders while the Shopify store is built and tested. On launch day a final delta sync brings over the newest customers and orders, DNS changes at your quietest hour, and the old environment stays reachable until the last order is confirmed.
Ten to sixteen weeks for most stores; four to six months when enterprise B2B, several store views, or an ERP sit in the critical path. Budgets run from the low five figures for a clean catalog on a customized theme into six figures for enterprise builds, driven by catalog complexity, the number of integrations, and how much custom logic must be rebuilt. The price is fixed once the audit is done.
