GEO Pricing in 2026: What AI Search Optimization Costs (And What You Get)
For buyers, the hard part is not deciding whether AI search matters; it is figuring out what a fair proposal should include.…
Read MoreWe built on Volusion for years and have moved more stores from it to BigCommerce than along any other route, sixteen of them written up as case studies. We know where Volusion keeps its data, how its ProductDetails.asp and .htm URLs earned your rankings, and how options and child products should be rebuilt. Your catalog, customers, orders, and content arrive reconciled, every old URL redirects, and the store never goes offline.

Volusion to BigCommerce
Volusion stores tend to be long-lived, and long-lived stores collect things: discontinued products that still rank, options added a dozen different ways, articles nobody remembers writing. We sort that out before anything moves, with Volusion developers and the BigCommerce development team in the same room.
Products, options, option categories, and child products, categories and their nesting, customers, order history, articles and custom pages, gift certificates, discounts, the template's custom code, and anything connected through the Volusion API, inventoried and mapped to BigCommerce. Works for V1 and V2 stores.
Core, Growth, Scale, or Performance matched to your trailing sales, a payment provider from the embedded list so no platform fee applies, and tax, shipping, and notification settings carried over from the way your Volusion store works now.
Products exported with every field and image from /v/vspfiles/, then rebuilt on BigCommerce: options and option categories become option sets with variants and SKUs, child products are merged into their parents or kept separate where they rank on their own, and categories are tidied as they move.
Customer accounts, addresses, and groups, plus the order history with line items and statuses, imported by API so reorders, support, and reporting continue. Passwords are not part of the import; customers set a new one at first sign-in through a flow we announce by email.
Most Volusion templates predate mobile shopping, so the storefront is redesigned, not ported: a Stencil theme for a conventional store or Catalyst for a headless one, with the layout your regulars know kept where it helps. See BigCommerce web design.
Volusion articles, category descriptions, and custom pages moved into BigCommerce pages and blog posts with their headings, images, and links repaired, so content that brings in search traffic keeps doing it.
What Volusion did, BigCommerce does or an app does: reviews, coupons and promotions, gift certificates, real-time shipping quotes, and customer groups are built in, by plan. Accounting, ERP, shipping, and email tools are reconnected through apps or the API and tested with real orders.
The heart of the job. Every ProductDetails.asp link, every -p/ and -s/ .htm path, every article and image URL that search engines know is crawled, matched to its new clean address, and loaded as a 301 through BigCommerce's bulk import before launch, with titles, descriptions, and structured data carried across.
A rehearsed launch: final sync of orders and customers, DNS switched at a quiet hour, sitemap submitted, and rankings, crawl errors, and orders checked daily for two weeks. Your team is trained on the new admin, and BigCommerce support is there afterward if you want it.
Why merchants move
Volusion served a lot of good businesses well, ours included, and it is still running. What has changed is the pace: the platform has seen little new development since the company's 2020 bankruptcy filing, its templates and app library show their age, and outages still appear on its status page. BigCommerce is the closest modern match to how a Volusion store is organized, which is why it is the move we recommend most often.
Regular releases, a current API, an active app marketplace, and a partner network, so the store you launch this year keeps improving without another replatform.
A responsive storefront and checkout by default. When IDCards made this move with us, mobile conversion rose 60 percent and mobile traffic 40 percent; the case study has the detail.
Categories, options, customer groups, and coupons behave the way a Volusion merchant expects, so your team is productive in the new admin within days.
You choose the URL structure, and bulk redirects send every old .asp and .htm address to its new page, so rankings built over a decade come with you.
Customer groups and price lists on the standard plans, B2B Edition for company accounts and quotes, and Multi-Storefront when one catalog needs more than one site.
Hosting, PCI compliance, a CDN, and current security standards come with the platform, which matters to customers who remember the 2019 Volusion checkout breach.
On every Volusion to BigCommerce migration
These come from doing this route more than any other, and they apply to every store:
Considering a different destination for your Volusion store? We run those routes too, and the free audit builds the task list for whichever pair you choose.
Six steps we have refined store after store: audit what a decade on Volusion has accumulated, export and clean the data, rebuild the catalog and the storefront, map every URL, rehearse and cut over, and watch the numbers afterward. Six to ten weeks for most stores.
The full inventory, the BigCommerce plan, the redirect strategy, and a fixed price. The free migration audit gives you a first task list in two minutes.
Products, options, customers, orders, and content exported from Volusion, duplicates and dead records set aside, and the mapping to BigCommerce agreed.
Option sets and variants rebuilt, a full import into a staging store, and counts checked against the exports until they match.
The storefront designed and built alongside, apps installed, and accounting, shipping, and email reconnected and tested.
Every old URL matched and loaded as a 301, the launch rehearsed, then the final sync and the DNS change at your quietest hour.
Daily checks for two weeks against the pre-launch baseline, admin training, and BigCommerce SEO to build on the cleaner structure when you are ready.

Volusion's future, experience, URLs, options, passwords, content, design, fees, downtime, and cost.
No shutdown has been announced, and stores on it are still running in 2026. The concern is direction: the company went through Chapter 11 in 2020, new features have been scarce since, and the app and partner ecosystem has thinned. Merchants are moving because they want a platform that is being invested in, and because it is better to migrate on your own schedule than on someone else's.
It is the route we have traveled most. Sixteen are published as case studies, including Long Island Watch, CIP1, and Budget Heating, and we were named a Volusion Top Expert in 2016 before becoming a BigCommerce Elite Partner.
They are replaced by clean BigCommerce URLs, and each old address is redirected to its new page with a 301. We crawl the Volusion store, pull the URLs Google has indexed from Search Console, match every one, and load the redirects in bulk before launch. This single step protects more revenue than any other part of the project.
Options and option categories become BigCommerce options that generate variants, each with its own SKU, price, and stock, up to 250 values per option and 600 SKUs per product. Child products are merged into a parent with variants, unless a child ranks or sells better as its own page, in which case it stays separate. We decide that product family by product family.
Order history, yes: every order with its items and status, attached to the right customer. Passwords, no; they cannot be moved between platforms. Customers choose a new password the first time they sign in, and we write the launch email that tells them how.
They move. Articles become blog posts or pages on BigCommerce, category descriptions come with their categories, and internal links are repointed. Old article URLs get redirects like every other page, so informational traffic is not lost.
A Volusion template cannot run on BigCommerce, and most are not built for phones, so the storefront is designed new. We keep what your customers rely on, such as navigation labels, category order, and brand elements, and improve what was holding conversion back. Our before and after gallery shows the difference.
Since June 2026 the plans are Core at $39 a month, Growth at $105, Scale at $399, and Performance at custom pricing, with automatic upgrades as trailing sales pass $30,000 and $100,000. Orders through an embedded provider such as Stripe or PayPal carry no platform fee; other gateways carry 0.6 to 2 percent by plan. We put that beside your Volusion bill in the plan.
No. The Volusion store keeps selling while BigCommerce is built and tested on a staging address. On launch day we sync the latest orders and customers, change DNS at a quiet hour with the redirects already live, and keep Volusion available until the last order is confirmed.
Six to ten weeks for most stores; longer for very large catalogs, a headless build, or deep integrations. Cost follows the catalog, the design scope, and the number of URLs and integrations, and is fixed after the audit. Our article on why Volusion merchants are switching now covers the planning in more depth.
