Shopify to BigCommerce
Shopify and BigCommerce model products, options, customers, discounts, and URLs differently, and a good migration knows the differences before the first export. Here is what ours covers, run by the BigCommerce development team that builds on the platform every week.
Products and variants, metafields, collections and their rules, customer tags and segments, discounts and Functions, apps and their data, theme customizations, Flow automations, and integrations inventoried, then mapped to their BigCommerce equivalents. If BigCommerce is not the better fit, we say so.
Core, Growth, Scale, or Performance (the plan names since June 2026) sized to your order volume, an embedded payment provider such as Stripe, PayPal, or Adyen, or your own gateway with the 2026 Open Payment Provider Fee understood, tax, shipping, and Multi-Storefront where you run more than one brand or region.
Products, images, categories, brands, and inventory moved by API. Shopify's three options become BigCommerce options with up to 250 values each and 600 SKUs per product; metafields become custom fields and metafields; collection rules become category assignments. Counts reconciled product by product.
Customer records, addresses, tags as customer groups, store credit, and the full order history with statuses, line items, and totals imported so lifetime value and support history survive. Shopify never exports passwords; we run a reset campaign that keeps your login rate high.
A Liquid theme cannot be ported, so we design and build on Stencil, or on Catalyst (Next.js) when you want headless speed, tuned for Core Web Vitals with page builder regions your team can edit. See BigCommerce web design.
Shopify company accounts, catalogs, and price lists rebuilt in BigCommerce B2B Edition: company hierarchies, buyer roles, price lists, quotes, purchase orders, net terms, and quick order, with customer groups for the rest.
Each Shopify app matched to a BigCommerce app, a native feature (reviews, abandoned cart recovery, real-time shipping, and promotions are built in), or a custom integration through the open APIs: ERP, 3PL, PIM, subscriptions, search, loyalty, helpdesk, and marketplaces.
A crawl and rankings baseline, every /products/, /collections/, /pages/, and /blogs/ URL mapped to its new path (BigCommerce lets you keep the structure you want), titles, descriptions, canonicals, and schema carried across, 301s loaded before the DNS switch, and Search Console watched daily afterward.
A final delta sync of orders and customers, DNS switched at a quiet hour, sitemap submitted, two weeks of daily monitoring, admin training for your team, and support after that if you want it.
Why merchants move
We build on both platforms and we are honest about the trade: Shopify has the larger app ecosystem and a strong checkout, and in 2026 it raised its variant limit and put B2B on every plan. BigCommerce still wins where catalogs are deep, URLs matter, B2B is the business rather than a side door, and you want open APIs without a paywall. Those are the stores we move.
Up to 250 values per option and 600 SKUs per product, unlimited option types, 200 custom fields, and categories up to 16,000 deep; the products you had to split on Shopify become one product again.
No forced /collections/ or /products/ paths; keep the URL structure that ranks, nest categories the way customers browse, and run full technical SEO without a theme hack.
Company hierarchies, buyer roles, price lists, quotes, purchase orders, net terms, and quick order natively, for wholesalers whose B2B is the business.
Reviews, abandoned cart recovery, real-time shipping quotes, promotions, customer groups, and faceted search are built in; many Shopify stores drop hundreds of dollars a month in apps.
Up to eight storefronts on Stencil and fifteen on Catalyst from one admin and one catalog, for multi-brand, regional, or B2B-and-B2C businesses.
REST and GraphQL with high limits on the Performance plan, Catalyst for a Next.js storefront, and no paywall on the data you own; the right base when integrations and custom experiences matter.
On every Shopify to BigCommerce migration
Whatever the size of the store, these hold on every migration we run:
Another direction, or moving to BigCommerce from a different platform? We run these routes too, and the free audit builds your task list in two minutes.
Six steps that keep rankings, customers, and integrations through the move: an audit and fit assessment first, the data mapped before it is moved, the storefront built in parallel, SEO treated as its own workstream, a rehearsed cutover, and two weeks of watching afterward. Typically eight to twelve weeks.
Inventory of catalog, customers, orders, apps, theme, and integrations; the mapping to BigCommerce; the plan recommendation; a fixed price. Start with the free audit.
Options, metafields, tags, discounts, and URLs mapped field by field; a full test migration into a staging store; counts reconciled and corrected.
Stencil or Catalyst storefront designed and built in parallel, with the custom features and B2B tools your Shopify store relied on.
Apps replaced, integrations connected and tested with real orders, the redirect map built and loaded, schema and meta in place.
A rehearsed cutover with a delta sync, DNS switched at a quiet hour, sitemap submitted, and the Shopify store kept available until the last order is confirmed on BigCommerce.
Daily checks of rankings, crawl errors, orders, and speed for two weeks, training for your team, and support or SEO afterward if you want it.

Send us your store URL. We will reply with a fit assessment, the task list a Shopify to BigCommerce move involves for your catalog, and a fixed price.
Fees, variants, URLs, B2B, apps, passwords, SEO, downtime, and cost.
The usual reasons: products with more than three options or deep variant structures, URL control for technical SEO, B2B that needs company hierarchies and price lists natively, Multi-Storefront for several brands or regions, open APIs for integrations, and a smaller app bill because reviews, cart recovery, shipping quotes, and promotions are built in. If none of those apply, Shopify may still be the right home, and we will tell you.
Shopify charges 0.2 to 2 percent by plan on gateways other than Shopify Payments. BigCommerce charges nothing on orders paid through its embedded providers (Stripe, PayPal, Adyen, and others) and, since June 2026, an Open Payment Provider Fee of 2, 1, or 0.6 percent by plan on other gateways and on offline orders such as purchase orders. Which is cheaper depends on your gateway and plan; we model it in the fit assessment with your real numbers.
Shopify allows three options per product (and up to 2,048 variants on eligible plans since 2026). BigCommerce allows any number of option types with 250 values each and 600 SKUs per product, plus modifiers for non-SKU choices. Products you split on Shopify can be merged back; variants that exceed 600 SKUs are planned per product in the mapping.
BigCommerce lets you set any URL structure, so we can keep your product and category slugs and drop the /collections/ and /products/ prefixes or keep them, whichever protects rankings best. Every indexed URL gets a one-to-one 301 either way, loaded before launch.
No; Shopify does not export password hashes. Customers, addresses, tags, and history move; we plan a reset campaign with your email tool so returning customers log in once and continue.
Each is matched to a BigCommerce app, a native feature, or a custom integration through the APIs, and its data (reviews, subscriptions, loyalty balances, gift cards) is migrated where the vendor allows. The audit lists every app and its replacement before you commit.
Shopify companies, catalogs, and price lists are rebuilt in BigCommerce B2B Edition with company hierarchies, buyer roles, price lists, quotes, purchase orders, net terms, and quick order; simpler wholesale setups use customer groups and price lists on the standard plans.
Not with the SEO workstream we run: a crawl and rankings baseline, one-to-one redirects for every indexed URL, metadata and schema carried across, internal links updated, and daily monitoring for two weeks. Badly redirected migrations lose 20 to 50 percent of organic traffic; ours are built to lose none.
No. The Shopify store sells until the final delta sync; DNS switches at a quiet hour with redirects already live, and the old store stays available until the last order is confirmed on BigCommerce.
Eight to twelve weeks for most stores, longer for large catalogs, B2B, or many integrations. Cost depends on catalog size, B2B scope, the storefront, and integrations; typical projects run from the low five figures into the mid five figures, and some BigCommerce migrations qualify for our free migration offer. The quote is fixed after the audit.
