GEO Pricing in 2026: What AI Search Optimization Costs (And What You Get)

Read MoreBigCommerce's Open Payment Provider Fee, in effect since June 2026, turned the move to Shopify into a budget decision for a lot of brands. We bring your catalog, customers, and full order history across through the APIs with reconciled counts, restructure any product that will not fit Shopify's three options before import, rebuild the storefront on Online Store 2.0, and load every redirect into Shopify before the domain switches, so the store keeps selling the whole way through.

BigCommerce to Shopify
BigCommerce and Shopify model products, customers, discounts, and URLs differently, and Shopify has limits BigCommerce does not. A good migration knows those differences before the first export. Here is what ours includes.
We inventory your products and their option and modifier structures, customer groups, price lists, discount rules, apps, scripts, custom Stencil work, and every URL Google has indexed, then map each to its Shopify counterpart and flag what does not fit one-to-one.
The right plan (Shopify, Advanced, or Plus, depending on B2B needs, checkout customization, and volume), Shopify Payments and alternative gateways, Markets for regions and currencies, sales tax, shipping profiles, and locations configured to match how you operate.
Products, images, categories (as collections), brands (as vendors), and inventory moved via the APIs. BigCommerce options and modifiers become Shopify variants and metafields; products that exceed Shopify's variant limits are restructured before import, not discovered broken after.
Customer records, addresses, tags for former customer groups, and complete order history imported with statuses and totals, so lifetime value and returns keep working from day one. Passwords cannot move; we plan the first-login experience.
Your Stencil theme cannot be ported, so we design and build a Liquid theme with sections and blocks your team can edit, tuned for Core Web Vitals on mobile, or a Hydrogen storefront when you are going headless.
Checkout configured with Shop Pay, wallets, and the customizations you had on BigCommerce rebuilt with Checkout Extensibility, plus B2B checkout, company accounts, and price lists on Shopify Plus.
Each BigCommerce app matched to a Shopify app or built as a custom app: subscriptions, reviews, loyalty, search, helpdesk, shipping, and your ERP, accounting, email, and marketplace connections, all tested with live data.
A crawl and rankings baseline, every product, category, page, and blog URL mapped to its Shopify path, titles and descriptions carried over, structured data rebuilt, and the map bulk-loaded into Shopify's redirect manager so it is live the moment DNS changes.
A final delta sync of orders and customers, DNS switched at a quiet hour, sitemap submitted, two weeks of daily monitoring, and your team trained in the Shopify admin, with support from the developers who did the work.
Why now
We are honest about this: BigCommerce is a capable platform and we build on it every week. But for a growing brand, Shopify's checkout, payments, and ecosystem now do things BigCommerce cannot, and the fee changes of 2026 turned a "someday" into a decision. These are the reasons that hold up.
Shopify Payments carries no platform surcharge, and using another gateway costs a known transaction fee, not a percentage-of-revenue platform fee added on top.
One-page checkout, Shop Pay with over 150 million saved buyers, wallets up front, and Checkout Extensibility to add the upsells and fields you need without breaking updates.
Subscriptions, bundles, loyalty, reviews, helpdesk, and marketing apps that share one customer record and install in an afternoon, replacing custom work you paid for on BigCommerce.
Sell in multiple currencies and regions from one store, run retail with Shopify POS, and list on marketplaces and social channels from the same catalog.
Company accounts, price lists, payment terms, and quantity rules built into the same store as your DTC business, on every paid plan since April 2026, with wholesale checkout that uses the same cart and Plus for deeper control.
Shopify Magic for product content and Sidekick for reporting and segments, plus a storefront whose product data AI shopping agents can read.
Before we touch DNS
These are the checks every BigCommerce to Shopify migration passes before we switch the domain. Most failed migrations we are hired to rescue skipped at least three of them.
Weighing a different destination for your BigCommerce store, or bringing another platform to Shopify? These are the closest routes, and the free audit drafts your task list in a couple of minutes.
Six steps that keep rankings, customers, and integrations through the move: an audit and a fixed plan, a validated data export, the store rebuilt on Shopify, a page-to-page redirect map, a checklist launch, and thirty days of monitoring against the baseline.
We audit the BigCommerce store, confirm Shopify is the right move for your fees, checkout, and features, and choose the plan. You get a scope, timeline, and fixed price.
Store created on a staging domain; payments, tax, shipping, Markets, locations, and policies configured; theme design approved on mobile first.
Catalog restructured for Shopify's model and imported through the APIs, then customers and orders, with automated count and sample reconciliation.
Online Store 2.0 theme built, checkout configured, apps installed and configured, integrations reconnected, content and blog migrated.
Test orders, integration syncs, accessibility and performance checks; the redirect map loaded and every mapped URL tested against the staging store.
Delta sync, DNS switch at a quiet hour, sitemap submitted, BigCommerce kept read-only as a fallback, and fourteen days of daily monitoring with fixes as needed.
A migration is judged by what does not happen: no lost orders, no broken links, no traffic cliff. Here is what our clients say about theirs.

“Mak Digital is the real deal! I have been in online retail since roughly 2005 and have worked with dozens of IT professionals. Not until meeting Mary and Mak Digital was I able to stop the carousel of developers. Our store DormCo.com has been under Mak's care since fall of 2014 and Byourbed.com was a customized store that was launched by Mak in 2016.”
Send us your store URL. We will reply with a fit assessment for Shopify, the specific risks in your catalog and apps, and a fixed price for the move.
Fees, plans, variants, passwords, SEO, downtime, and what the move costs.
The trigger for most is cost: BigCommerce's Open Payment Provider Fee, effective June 1, 2026, charges stores that process through a gateway other than its preferred providers. Beyond fees, brands want Shopify's checkout (Shop Pay, one-page checkout, Checkout Extensibility), its app ecosystem, Markets for international selling, and B2B on Plus. We confirm which of those apply to you before recommending the move.
Most stores migrating from BigCommerce fit Grow or Advanced. Shopify Plus becomes necessary when you need custom checkout logic, large B2B catalogs, multiple expansion stores, or volume-based payment rates; company accounts and price lists themselves have been on every paid plan since April 2026. We size the plan against your BigCommerce features so you do not pay for Plus if you do not need it, and do not discover you needed it after launch.
Usually, with planning. Shopify allows 2,048 variants per product on every plan (raised from 100 in October 2025) and three options per product. BigCommerce stores often use more option types than that, or modifiers that generate more combinations. During the audit we identify those products and restructure them (separate products, metafields, or line-item properties) before import, so nothing arrives truncated.
No. BigCommerce and Shopify hash passwords differently, and hashes cannot be converted. Accounts, addresses, and order history migrate; each customer sets a new password the first time they log in. With Shopify's new customer accounts that is a one-time email code rather than a password at all, which most customers find easier. We send a launch email explaining it and brief your support team.
Not if the redirect map is complete. BigCommerce and Shopify use different URL structures (Shopify puts products under /products/ and collections under /collections/), so every indexed URL needs a 301 redirect live at launch. Shopify's redirect manager takes a bulk CSV import (up to 100,000 redirects on standard plans), and we load and test the full map before switching DNS. We also carry over titles, descriptions, and structured data, submit the new sitemap, and monitor Search Console daily for two weeks.
No. The Shopify store is built and tested on a staging domain while BigCommerce keeps selling. At launch we sync the orders and customers that arrived since the main migration, switch DNS at a quiet hour, and keep BigCommerce read-only for a period as a safety net. Customers see the new store on their next visit.
Gift card and store credit balances are recreated on Shopify from a BigCommerce export, and active discount codes are rebuilt (Shopify's discount model is different, so some rules are restructured). Saved payment methods cannot transfer for PCI reasons; customers re-enter a card on their next order, or use Shop Pay.
A typical store with a custom theme, full data migration, app replacement, and SEO work takes eight to ten weeks; simpler stores can launch in five to six, and large catalogs, Plus B2B setups, or ERP integrations take longer. We give a dated plan after the audit.
A full-service BigCommerce to Shopify migration with a custom Online Store 2.0 theme, API-driven data migration, app parity, integrations, and SEO work typically starts in the low five figures and scales with catalog size, integrations, and B2B complexity. Shopify's own fees are the plan, apps, and payment processing. We quote a fixed price after the audit.
Yes, and you should. The theme is being rebuilt regardless, so it is the cheapest time to fix product pages, navigation, and mobile checkout. We use your BigCommerce analytics and session data to decide what changes, and design the Shopify store to convert better than the one you are leaving.
