WooCommerce to Shopify Migration: Hand Off the Hosting, Keep the Customers and the Rankings

Most merchants who leave WooCommerce are not unhappy with what it can do. They are tired of being the IT department: hosting, updates, plugin conflicts, security alerts, and a checkout they have to tune themselves. Shopify takes all of that on. We move your products, customers, orders, blog, and pages, replace plugins with apps, redirect every URL to its new /products/ or /collections/ address, and launch with no gap in sales.

WooCommerce to Shopify

What We Do to Move Your WooCommerce Store to Shopify

The data move is the easy half. The half that decides whether the migration pays off is everything WooCommerce did through plugins and custom fields, and the search traffic attached to URLs that are about to change. Our Shopify development team plans both before a single product is exported.

  • WooCommerce & Plugin Audit

Products and variation counts, custom fields, coupons, user roles, subscriptions, the checkout customizations, and every plugin with the job it does, each given a Shopify answer: built in, an app, or custom work. You also get our view on whether Shopify suits the store, including the cases where it does not.

  • Shopify Plan, Payments & Setup

Basic, Grow, Advanced, or Plus matched to your volume and needs, Shopify Payments or your current gateway compared with the third-party transaction fee included in the math, then taxes, shipping zones and rates, locations, and notifications configured to match the way you sell now.

  • Products, Variations & Metafields

Simple and variable products imported with images, SKUs, inventory, and SEO fields; variations become variants under up to three options; product attributes and custom fields become metafields the theme and filters can use; categories and tags become collections. Products with more than three options are remodeled in the mapping.

  • Customers, Orders & Accounts

Customer records with addresses and marketing consent, and the order history with line items, discounts, and fulfillment status, imported by API so lifetime value and support history stay whole. Shopify's accounts sign in with an emailed one-time code, so there are no passwords to migrate or reset.

  • Theme Design & Build

A WordPress theme cannot run on Shopify, so the storefront is designed fresh on an Online Store 2.0 theme: sections and blocks your team rearranges in the editor, fast on mobile, and faithful to the brand your customers know. See Shopify web design.

  • Blog, Pages & WordPress Content

Posts move into the Shopify blog with their authors, dates, images, and metadata, and pages are rebuilt as Shopify pages or theme templates. For a large editorial library, WordPress can stay on its own subdomain or subfolder, and we will tell you which serves your traffic better.

  • Plugins to Shopify Apps

Reviews, email and SMS, search, loyalty, shipping, tax, returns, and feeds each matched to a vetted app, with the data moved wherever the vendor allows: review histories, loyalty balances, gift cards. We keep the app list short, because every app is a monthly cost and a script on the page.

  • Subscriptions, Memberships & Wholesale

WooCommerce Subscriptions has no one-to-one equivalent, so subscription contracts are rebuilt in a subscription app such as Recharge with billing dates preserved and payment tokens transferred where the processor supports it. Wholesale roles move to Shopify's company accounts, catalogs, and price lists.

  • SEO Migration, Redirects & Cutover

Every /product/, /product-category/, post, and page URL exported from the crawl and Search Console, mapped to its Shopify address, and bulk imported as a 301, with titles, descriptions, alt text, and structured data carried across. Launch is rehearsed, happens at a quiet hour, and is followed by two weeks of daily monitoring and optional support.

Why merchants move

What Stores Gain by Moving From WooCommerce to Shopify

We work on both platforms and like both. WooCommerce wins on freedom: any feature, any checkout, any host. Shopify wins on everything you would rather not think about. The honest question is which of those your business is short of. For a brand with a small team and more marketing ideas than developer hours, it is usually the second.

  • Nothing to Host, Patch, or Back Up

Servers, security, SSL, backups, and traffic spikes on sale days are Shopify's responsibility. The monthly maintenance window disappears from your calendar.

  • A Checkout Shoppers Already Trust

More than 100 million shoppers have opted in to Shop Pay, and in Shopify's study it lifted conversion by up to 50 percent over guest checkout. You get that on day one, without tuning a checkout plugin.

  • One Vendor for the Core

Catalog, cart, checkout, payments, and hosting come from one company with one support line, so a problem is never a three-way conversation between your host, a plugin author, and a developer.

  • Every Channel From One Admin

Shopify POS for retail, the Shop app, social and marketplace channels, and agentic storefronts that list eligible products with AI shopping assistants all draw on the same catalog and inventory.

  • A Store Your Team Can Run

Merchandising, discounts, landing pages, and product launches happen in the admin. Developer time goes to new ideas, and none of it to keeping the lights on.

  • What Shopify Will Not Do

Three options per product, fixed URL prefixes, a checkout you can extend but not rewrite below Plus, a transaction fee on outside gateways, and app subscriptions that add up. If those would hurt, a managed WooCommerce setup or BigCommerce may fit better, and we will say so.

On every WooCommerce to Shopify migration

Our Migration Standards

From a fifty-product shop to a store with years of orders, each WooCommerce to Shopify move we run meets these:

  • A written fit assessment, including the reasons you might be better off staying
  • Every plugin accounted for: built in, replaced by an app, rebuilt, or retired
  • Products, variants, customers, and orders reconciled by count against WooCommerce
  • Blog posts and pages moved with authors, dates, images, and metadata
  • Every indexed URL redirected one to one, imported and crawled before launch
  • Subscriptions moved with billing dates intact and customers told what to expect
  • A lean app list with the monthly cost stated up front
  • Core Web Vitals passing on mobile from the first day
  • Zero downtime, and a fixed price after the audit

How a WooCommerce to Shopify Migration Runs

Six steps in four to eight weeks for most stores: audit the plugins, set up Shopify and map the data, run a test import, build the theme and install the apps, launch behind a complete redirect map, and monitor until the numbers settle.

  • Audit & Plan

The plugin and data inventory, the Shopify plan and payment comparison, the redirect strategy, and a fixed price. Try the free migration audit for a first look.

  • Shopify Setup & Mapping

The store configured, and every product field, custom field, category, tag, and role mapped to its Shopify counterpart on paper.

  • Test Import

Products, customers, and orders imported into the new store, counts and samples checked against WooCommerce, and problems fixed before the real run.

  • Theme, Apps & Content

The theme built, apps installed and configured, subscriptions rebuilt, and blog posts and pages moved and reviewed.

  • Redirects & Launch Day

The redirect file imported and crawled, a last sync of new orders and customers, DNS pointed at Shopify during a quiet hour, and the sitemap submitted.

  • Monitor & Build On It

Daily checks on rankings, crawl errors, orders, and speed for two weeks, training for your team, then SEO or email work to build on the new store when you want it.

WooCommerce to Shopify Migration Questions

Reasons, cost, plans, product mapping, content, subscriptions, passwords, URLs, downtime, and timelines.

Why do merchants move from WooCommerce to Shopify in 2026?

Simplicity at scale. A growing WooCommerce store asks for more hosting, more plugins, more testing before every update, and more attention to security, and that work lands on the owner or a developer on retainer. Shopify bundles hosting, security, checkout, and payments, and it now offers 2,048 variants per product (since October 2025) and B2B features on every paid plan (since April 2026), which removed two common reasons to stay.

Is Shopify more expensive than WooCommerce?

The subscription is higher than a hosting bill: $39 a month for Basic, $105 for Grow, $399 for Advanced, and from $2,300 for Plus, plus apps, and a transaction fee of 0.2 to 2 percent by plan if you keep a gateway other than Shopify Payments. Against that, set hosting, premium plugin renewals, and the developer hours that maintenance takes. For stores with real upkeep costs the totals are often close, and we lay out both columns before you decide.

Which Shopify plan fits a store coming from WooCommerce?

Most stores moving from WooCommerce start on Grow or Advanced, and the choice turns on volume, since each step up trades a larger subscription for lower payment rates. Basic works for small catalogs. Plus is for brands that need custom checkout logic, expansion stores, or enterprise B2B. The plan can change later without another migration.

How do variable products and custom fields map to Shopify?

A variable product becomes a Shopify product with up to three options and as many as 2,048 variants. Attributes that are not used for variations, and custom fields added by plugins, become metafields that the theme can display and filter on. A product with four or more variation attributes is split or handled with a product options app, and we settle that in the mapping.

What happens to our WordPress blog and pages?

Posts move into Shopify's blog with their authors, publish dates, images, and SEO fields, and their URLs change to the /blogs/ pattern with redirects from the old ones. Shopify's blog is simpler than WordPress, which is fine for most stores. If content is a major traffic source, keeping WordPress for the editorial side is a valid setup and we will help you weigh it.

Can WooCommerce Subscriptions move to Shopify?

Yes, with care. The subscription products, schedules, and next billing dates are rebuilt in a Shopify subscription app. Saved payment methods transfer when your processor supports moving tokens, which we confirm at the start; where it does not, subscribers are asked to re-enter a card through a campaign designed to keep as many as possible.

Will customers need new passwords?

No. WordPress password hashes cannot be imported, but Shopify's customer accounts do not use passwords: a customer enters their email, receives a one-time code, and is signed in with their order history in place. A short note in the launch email explains the new sign-in.

Every URL changes. Will we lose rankings?

Shopify uses fixed prefixes, so /product/ becomes /products/ and categories become /collections/, and that makes the redirect map the most important document in the project. We export every indexed URL, map each to its new address, import the 301s in bulk, and crawl them before launch. With that in place rankings typically hold, and a faster storefront often helps them afterward.

Will we lose sales during the switch?

No. Your WooCommerce store stays open while the Shopify store is built. On launch day we bring over the latest orders and customers, switch DNS at a quiet hour, and keep the old site reachable until the last order is confirmed.

How long does a WooCommerce to Shopify migration take, and what does it cost?

Four to eight weeks for most stores, longer with subscriptions, wholesale, or a large content library. A professional migration with a customized theme usually falls in the low to mid five figures, and enterprise projects run higher; what drives it is the theme, the number of apps and integrations, and how much plugin behavior has to be rebuilt. You get a fixed quote once the audit is complete.
