Industries We Serve: eCommerce Built for How Your Market Buys

An age-gated spirits store, a parts catalog searched by year, make, and model, and a wholesale portal with customer price lists have little in common beyond a checkout. We build, rank, and market online stores across 31 industries, and each one below links to the work we do for it.

eCommerce Services by Industry

Every card links to our pages for that industry: web design, web development, SEO, digital marketing, and, where we have one, the industry portfolio. Selling firearms, alcohol, tobacco, vape, CBD, or supplements? See high-risk industries below.

Regulated and high-risk eCommerce

High-Risk Industries We Serve

Firearms, alcohol, tobacco, vape, CBD, and supplements are legal to sell online, and still harder to launch than almost anything else. Mainstream payment providers restrict them, federal and state law decides who can buy and how orders ship, and one wrong platform choice can take a store offline overnight.

We plan those rules first: the platform and payment provider, age verification, shipping and tax compliance, and product content that keeps you clear of trouble. Then we design, build, rank, and market the store like any other.

How we work

How We Build Stores for High-Risk Industries

Six things we settle before design starts, because each can stop a regulated store from launching or keep it from staying open.

  • Payments That Get Approved

Shopify Payments does not support firearms or ammunition, and Stripe treats tobacco, vape, CBD, and firearms as restricted. We match your store to a provider that underwrites your category, prepare the site details underwriters check, and connect the gateway to your platform.

  • A Platform That Allows Your Products

Platform rules on regulated products change, sometimes with weeks of notice. We confirm your products are permitted before the build and keep your data portable, so a policy change is a migration and never a shutdown.

  • Age Verification That Holds Up

A pop-up asking for a birth date is not age verification. We build checks into checkout, using identity databases where the law requires them, and pass delivery requirements such as adult signatures through to fulfillment.

  • Shipping and Tax Rules by State

Vape and tobacco orders fall under the PACT Act, alcohol shipping is set state by state, and firearms ship to a licensed dealer. Shipping rules, carrier choices, and tax collection are configured per state and product, not by hand.

  • Product Content Without Risky Claims

CBD and supplement pages sell on proof, not promises: lab results, ingredient panels, and wording that stays inside what the FDA and FTC allow. Content is written to rank and to keep your processor comfortable.

  • Records, Reporting, and Resilience

Order and delivery records kept for the periods the law requires, reports your compliance team can pull, and a backup payment option ready, so an account review never stops the business.

Rules That Shape a High-Risk Store

A summary of what each category has to plan for online. It is a starting point for planning, not legal advice; your counsel confirms the rules for your products and states.

Why industry experience matters

What Changes From One Industry to the Next

Most of an online store is the same everywhere. The part that is not decides whether it sells. Beyond the high-risk rules above, these are the differences we plan for in every industry.

  • How Buyers Search the Catalog

Parts shoppers search by year, make, and model, apparel shoppers by size and fit, electronics shoppers by spec. The filters, product data, and URLs follow the way your buyers look.

  • B2B Buyers Next to Retail Ones

Wholesale, medical, office, and HVAC buyers expect their own prices, quotes, purchase orders, and fast reorders, often on the same store retail customers use.

  • Seasons and Launch Days

Pool, garden, and sporting goods peak with the weather; gaming and electronics spike on release day. Merchandising, content, and campaigns are scheduled around the calendar your buyers keep.

  • Catalog Size and Product Data

A jeweler with two hundred pieces and an office supplier with thirty thousand need different search, filters, and import tools. We size the catalog architecture to your product count and how often it changes.

  • Local or National Buyers

HVAC contractors, wedding vendors, and healthcare providers win on local search and fast inquiries; national brands win on category pages and shopping feeds. The SEO plan follows where your buyers are.

  • Proof Buyers Need Before They Trust You

Medical buyers want specifications, luxury buyers want craftsmanship up close, and parents want safety information. Every product page carries the evidence your market asks for.

In every industry

What Every Engagement Includes

Whatever you sell, these come standard:

  • Platform and payment choices checked against your industry before the build starts
  • Product data, filters, and URLs modeled on how your buyers search
  • Compliance features such as age verification and shipping limits built into checkout where your category needs them
  • B2B pricing, quotes, and reorders where you sell to businesses
  • Core Web Vitals passing on mobile, where most shoppers start
  • Structured data for products, reviews, and your business
  • SEO and content planned around your industry's buying calendar
  • A team that has launched stores in your category before
  • Support and growth work after launch, from the same people

How We Start an Industry Project

Four steps that put your industry's rules first and the design second, so nothing has to be rebuilt after launch.

  • Industry & Compliance Review

Your products, buyers, payment options, shipping limits, and the rules that apply to your category, reviewed before any platform is chosen.

  • Platform & Catalog Plan

The platform, gateway, and catalog structure that fit: filters, product data, B2B pricing, and URLs planned around how your buyers search.

  • Design & Build

A storefront designed for your market and built for speed, with the industry features in place from the first release.

  • Launch & Grow

Launch with redirects and tracking in place, then SEO, content, and campaigns timed to your industry's calendar.

Industries We Serve: Questions

Which industries we work with, regulated categories, B2B, platforms, and getting started.

What industries does MAK Digital serve?

We design, develop, rank, and market online stores across 31 industries, including automotive, B2B and wholesale, firearms, alcohol, CBD, beauty, fashion, home goods, medical supplies, electronics, and food. Each industry on this page links to our design, development, SEO, and marketing pages for it.

Do you work with regulated or high-risk industries?

Yes. We build for firearms, alcohol, tobacco, vape, CBD, and supplement sellers, and we plan the payment provider, age verification, shipping and tax rules, and product content before the build, because mainstream processors and platforms restrict these categories.

Which industries count as high-risk in eCommerce?

Payment providers usually treat firearms and ammunition, tobacco, vape, CBD and hemp, some supplements, and alcohol as high-risk or restricted, because of legal limits, age requirements, or chargeback rates. Being high-risk does not make a product illegal; it means the store needs a provider that underwrites it and the compliance features to match.

Can you help us get payment processing approved?

We match your store to providers that accept your category, prepare the site details underwriters review (policies, age verification, product content, and shipping rules), and connect the approved gateway to your platform. The provider makes the final decision, so we also plan a backup option.

Which eCommerce platforms work for high-risk products?

It depends on the category. Each platform has its own acceptable use policy and its own list of payment gateways it connects to, and both decide whether your products can be sold there. We check both for your exact products before recommending BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Magento, or Shopify.

Does the 2026 hemp law affect my CBD store?

Likely. The federal hemp definition passed in November 2025 moves to a total-THC standard in late 2026, which removes many products from federal hemp status. We help review your catalog, lab reports, and product pages for the new limits; your counsel confirms what stays legal for your products and states.

Can you build for B2B and retail buyers on one store?

Yes. Customer groups, price lists, quotes, purchase orders, and quick reorder can run beside a retail storefront, on BigCommerce B2B Edition, Shopify, Magento, or WooCommerce, depending on what fits your business.

Which eCommerce platform is best for my industry?

It depends on your catalog, buyers, and payment options. A firearms or vape store has different platform constraints than an apparel brand, and a B2B distributor needs different tools than a gift shop. We recommend the platform after reviewing your industry rather than before.

What if my industry is not listed?

The work usually maps to an industry that is. Tell us what you sell and who buys it, and we will show you comparable projects and what your store needs.

Do you only do web design, or SEO and marketing too?

All four. Every industry card links to our web design, web development, SEO, and digital marketing pages for that industry, and most clients use more than one service with the same team.

Can I see work in my industry?

Yes. Where we have an industry portfolio it is linked on the card, and our full portfolio covers automotive, B2B, home goods, fashion, firearms, food, medical supplies, sporting goods, gardening, luxury goods, and entertainment.

How do industry projects start?

With a review of your products, buyers, payment options, and the rules for your category. From there we recommend the platform and catalog plan and give you a fixed quote.

Do you help stores that already exist?

Yes. We redesign, migrate, optimize, and keep developing existing stores, and we have completed more than 300 platform and data migrations.

How long does an industry-specific store take?

Most industry-specific builds take eight to sixteen weeks from discovery to launch, depending on catalog size, integrations, and compliance features. SEO and marketing work starts before launch and continues after it.
