The Situation

NSPEC Innovations had built a successful business as a firearms parts retailer on GunBroker.com, known for offering hard-to-find components, gear, and accessories. But success on the platform came with significant drawbacks. Every sale meant paying fees that cut into their earnings, and as their customer base grew and order values increased, those fees became more costly. More critically, they had no ownership of their customer relationships or data—everything lived on GunBroker's platform. Without their own ecommerce site, they also risked missing opportunities to build their brand, control their margins, and scale their business on their own terms.

The Core Challenge

Their entire business ran through GunBroker.com. Every transaction meant paying platform fees that cut into margins. Every customer relationship belonged to GunBroker, not them. They had no way to build their own brand if they continued to operate solely on the gunbroker platform. Launching an independent ecommerce site meant breaking free from that dependency—but it also meant building everything from scratch: a storefront, payment processing, inventory management, and customer accounts. For a business that had never operated its own website, the challenge was establishing a credible, functional ecommerce presence that could compete with the trust and ease customers already had with GunBroker.

Additonal Obstacles

While successful on GunBroker, they were completely unknown as a standalone brand. They had no independent reputation, no customer testimonials on their own site, and little to none SEO authority—meaning they wouldn't show up in Google searches for firearms parts. Established competitors had years of search rankings, backlinks, and brand recognition working in their favor. NSPEC's new site needed to immediately signal legitimacy and professionalism to first-time visitors while establishing basic SEO foundations like clean URLs and proper product tagging. Without both credibility and discoverability, customers would simply stick with the brands they already knew and could easily find.

We built NSPEC Innovations first independent ecommerce website presence using MAK Digital's BigCommerce Austin theme, customized to establish their brand identity in the firearms industry.

    A few months. We used our BigCommerce Austin theme with light customizations, which allowed us to launch quickly without sacrificing quality. The timeline included design customization, and compliance setup. If you need to launch fast, a theme-based approach like NSPEC's gets you to market faster than a full custom build.

  • What kind of support did NSPEC get after the site launches?

    All MAKDigital projects include a post-launch period to address any immediate issues or bugs. After that, NSPEC can reach out for one-off updates or enroll in our ongoing support retainer for regular maintenance, feature additions, and technical assistance. We don't disappear after launch—we're available to help as their business grows and needs change.

  • How Did you help NSPEC with SEO and search rankings?

    We provided standard SEO help through best practices such as clean URLs, proper product tagging, blog functionality, and structured content. However, we didn't provide SEO services like keyword research, or content optimization. Those are separate services.

  • Does MAKDigital provide documentation if we want to purchase a theme without additional services?

    Currently, we provide full documentation onnly for our Austin theme, which is available directly in our BigCommerce store. We also offer dedicated support Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM EST, to assist with any questions or guidance you may need.
