Phastek Performance, is one of the leading online retailers for Chevy, Corvette and GMC aftermarket performance parts and styling upgrades. In business since 2009 Phasteks catalogue has grown significantly, since initially starting only servicing 5th generation Camaros it was time for a much needed upgrade! Phastek approached MAK Digital with the desire to change eCommerce platforms and redesign the appearance of their site to match its new functionality and upgraded performance. Much like the vehicles they care for Phastek understood their investment would go a long way when working with MAK Digital.

Concept

PhastekPerformance.com was migrated from Volusion to BigCommerce. MAK implemented a complex design from the ground up, featuring multiple category page views dependent on category structure. The site’s navigation structure is dynamic, based upon user’s selected vehicle. This was enabled in part due to a custom integration with Convermax, where the user can select their specific make, model, and year of vehicle through their extensive database, and then the entire top-level navigation structure would update with categories and sub-categories tailor-made for that specific vehicle. The site also displays a default navigation structure for scenarios where the user has not selected a vehicle.

Our implementation allows for complete flexibility where the client needs it most: In the future, a store owner can add as many additional vehicle shops as needed; without any intervention from MAK or a technical resource.

The ability to easily and intuitively select or switch vehicles throughout the user experience was a primary focus of MAK during this project. Many, if not most of Phastek’s customers own multiple vehicles, and we are accommodating them by storing additional cars in their virtual “garage” via stored cookies. This garage feature is also being synced with customer wish lists via a custom-coded API integration, where BigCommerce’s native wish list functionality was essentially transformed into a garage/build list.

The new Phastek site also features a custom-built React side cart component as well as a custom-developed React component for mobile navigation. Also, a custom implemented stamped.io reviews and rewards. The redesign included BigCommerce Stencil implementation to create a seamless and engaging user interface. Our team of BigCommerce web designers ensured the site is visually appealing and highly functional.

Furthermore, our BigCommerce developers worked diligently to optimize the site for BigCommerce page speed and performance, ensuring a fast and efficient browsing experience for users. This project was executed with the collaboration of our BigCommerce design partners to ensure a cohesive and professional design.

The previous site was plagued with issues of disorganization and clutter, which detracted from its usability and overall aesthetic. It almost seemed like the site was built with two different design philosophies, creating a disjointed user experience. This lack of cohesion not only confused visitors but also undermined the brand's professional image.

One of the major issues we addressed was the inconsistent use of fonts and mismatching categories and layouts. The old design featured a variety of fonts across different sections, contributing to a chaotic visual presentation. Categories were not logically organized, making it difficult for users to navigate the site efficiently. By unifying the font choices and reworking the category structure, we aimed to create a more intuitive and streamlined browsing experience. This reorganization was essential in transforming the site into a coherent and visually appealing platform that aligns with the brand’s identity.
